Sandersville City Council unanimously voted to annex a portion of property on South Harris Street during their Tuesday, February 22 City Council meeting.

Sandersville’s Community Development Director Dave Larson explained that this matter concerns approximately 0.862 acres of the property located at 1207 South Harris Street in Sandersville. Larson stated that Jimmy Childre, Jr. owns the property.

“That’s the portion of land between Childre Ford and the Huddle House,” said Sandersville Mayor Jimmy Andrews when discussing the property.

When discussing the zoning for that property, Community Development Director Larson stated that everything else along that street is zoned C-2, which is commercial, and the proposal is to keep that requested portion C-2, as well.

“And the staff recommendation is to approve the zoning as C-2 commercial,” said Larson during a previous public hearing.

Mayor Andrews explained that the Sandersville Planning & Zoning Commission conducted a public hearing regarding this request on Monday, January 31; no one attended that public hearing to speak in opposition of the request. The Planning & Zoning Commission voted unanimously to recommend a C-2 zoning designation for the property.

Sandersville City Council also conducted a public hearing regarding the request on Monday, February 7; there was no opposition at that time. The second public hearing with the Sandersville City Council took place during the Tuesday, February 22 City Council meeting. Again, there was no opposition.

At the conclusion of the Tuesday, February 22 public hearing, City Council voted unanimously to annex the 0.862 acres of property on South Harris Street into the city limits of Sandersville, and to designate that property as C-2 commercially zoned.
