Mr. Jerry Robert Curry, age 76, of Tennille passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at his residence. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, March 5th at 2:00 P.M. in the Piney Mount United Methodist Church with Reverend Gary Griffin officiating. Pallbearers will be Randy Flanigan, Waylan Hitchcock, Ken Jackson, Wayne Layton, Jimmy Lewis, Kenny Smart, and Jimmy Ray Smith. The Washington County High School Class of 1963 will sit as an Honorary Group. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 4th from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.

Jerry was a Washington County native, the son of the late Curtis Curry and the late Mary Ellen Hyatt Curry. He was reared in the Bay Springs Methodist Church in Oconee and was a member of the Piney Mount United Methodist Church in Tennille. Mr. Curry was a 1963 graduate of the Washington County High School, where he discovered his love of machinery in Mr. Robert Young’s Industrial Arts Class. After high school, Jerry attended the Trinidad State College in Colorado and graduated as a Machinist and Gunsmith. He then enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam Conflict as an Instructor with the U.S. Army School Europe in Germany. Following his military service, Mr. Curry returned to Washington County and began a career as a machinist, working for both American Industrial Clay Company and Georgia Kaolin. Jerry also worked as an instructor for Oconee Fall Line College and for himself as a gunsmith and a machinist. In addition to his parents, Mr. Curry is preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Caryn Curry.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Lockhart Curry of Tennille; daughter, Alicia Curry Pociatek and her husband Bryan of Statesboro; grandchildren, Annalise Jewell Doninski of Athens and Margaret Elizabeth Young of Statesboro; sister, Meredith Williams of Oconee; and “borrowed family,” Brad and Seretta Griffeth and their son Eli.
