
Mrs. Barbara Holmes Sheppard, age 88, of Sandersville, died Monday, January 27, 2020. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Thursday, January 30th at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Sandersville with burial in Brownwood Cemetery. Reverend Lee Lacey will officiate. Pallbearers will be Eric Holmes, Tracey Giddens, Mike Rice, Howard Brantley, Wendell Tompkins Jr., John Dean McCaskill, Rob Mathis, David Brooker, Trey Stewart and Casey Rogers.
Mrs. Sheppard was born in Charlotte NC, the daughter of the late Emmitt Lee Holmes and the late Hattie Virginia Kelly Holmes. She was reared in Washington County where she met and married her lifelong love, Howard. She spent her entire working career beside her husband retiring at the age of 86 as corporate secretary for Howard Sheppard Inc. Mrs. Sheppard was a longtime and active member of First Baptist Church. She was a charter member of the Washington County Pilot Club. She was always active in her community and known for her comical and fun nature. Her greatest earthly treasure was her family. Mrs. Sheppard is predeceased by her husband, Howard Clifford Sheppard Sr.
Survivors are her children, Howard Clifford “Cliff” Sheppard Jr. and his wife Dianne of Sandersville, and Sharon Sheppard Ouzts and her husband Henry of Eatonton; grandchildren, Howard Clifford “Trey” Sheppard III and his wife Emily, Mitchell Scott “Mitch” Sheppard and his wife Brannen all of Sandersville, Cortland Cunningham “Cort” Ouzts and his wife Carly of Charlotte NC., and Jamie Ouzts Reese and her husband Jake of Albany; great grandchildren, Howard Clifford “Ford” Sheppard IV, Anne Marie Sheppard, Emerson Callaway Sheppard, Benjamin Jones Sheppard, Julia Pierce Sheppard, Mitchell Scott Sheppard Jr., Sims Callaway Sheppard, Elizabeth Dean Ouzts, Carlyn Virginia Reese, Suzanna Roberts Reese and John Sheppard Reese; and her sisters, Carolyn H. Marchman and her husband Billy of Atlanta and Linda H. Garrett of Sandersville.
The family will be at the home of Dianne and Cliff Sheppard and they will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville.
