April is the Month of the Young Child

The Washington County NB&PW Club, Inc. Head Start/Georgia Pre-K and other local organizations, in conjunction with the Georgia Association on Young Children and the National Association for the Education of Young Children, are celebrating the Georgia Month of the Young Child during April.

The Sandersville Mayor and Council joined the celebration by proclaiming April as the Month of the Young Child in the City of Sandersville. The proclamation was presented to the Washington County NB&PW Club, Inc. Head Start/Georgia Pre-K on Tuesday, March 27 at Sandersville City Hall.

“These organizations are working to improve early learning opportunities, including early literacy programs, that can provide a foundation of learning for children in Sandersville,” said Sandersville Mayor Jimmy Andrews when presenting the proclamation.

Mayor Andrews went on to say that teachers and others who make a difference in the lives of young children in Sandersville deserve thanks and recognition.

“Public policies that support early learning for all young children are crucial to young children’s futures,” said Mayor Andrews.

With the presentation, Sandersville Mayor Jimmy Andrews encouraged all citizens to work to make a good investment in early childhood in Sandersville.

The Washington County NB & PW Club, Inc. serves as the administering agency for the Head Start/Georgia Pre-K program, which provides services to children and families at the various centers.  Head Start is a federally funded, comprehensive child development program, serving three and four year old children whose families’ meet federal criteria for eligibility for enrollment, or who have documented special needs.  The Georgia Pre-Kindergarten program is funded by the State of Georgia and serves four-year-old children who meet state criteria for eligibility for enrollment.

The Washington County NB & PW Club, Inc. Head Start Georgia Pre-K Program operates five sites located in four counties: Glascock County, Johnson County, Wilkes County and two sites in Washington County. The two sites in Washington County are located in Sandersville and Davisboro. All sites are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), licensed by the Bright from the Start (BFTS) Department of Early Care and Learning.
