Visits to the City of Sandersville’s social media page soared during the month of February, according to Sandersville’s Economic Development Director Andrew Simpson.

The month of February was Black History Month. Every day during Black History Month, the City of Sandersville’s Facebook page featured African Americans that were either born in Sandersville, made Sandersville their home, or contributed to the Sandersville community.

Simpson thanked Eddie Mae Miller-Gilmore, Brynn Taylor, Briana Nelson, and Delino Miller for their research and contributions regarding those featured in the City’s recognitions last month.

During his presentation to the Sandersville Mayor and Council on Monday, March 1, Simpson explained that the social media posts were very important and reached a significant number of people.

For the month of February, the City of Sandersville saw a 112 percent increase in page views from the previous month. The page likes increased 353 percent; the post engagements increased 743 percent.

In total, 89,573 people saw the City of Sandersville’s social media postings during Black History Month.

“That shows the importance of recognizing our local people during Black History Month,” said Simpson. “This is absolutely incredible for one month.”

Simpson explained that the project took approximately one year to compile.

“We wanted to do it properly, and we wanted to reach out to our partners in the community,” said Simpson. “It was phenomenal for February.”

When looking ahead, Sandersville’s Economic Development Director Simpson stated that he’s already working with partners on a week-long event for Juneteenth.
