
Mrs. Betty Barnes Barfield, age 86, of Harrison peacefully passed at her home on Friday, February 17, 2023, while surrounded by family. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, February 20th at 2:00 P.M. in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Tabernacle Methodist Church Cemetery in Sandersville. Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service.
Mrs. Barfield was born and reared in Berrien County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Johnny B. Barnes and the late Clara Bryant Barnes. She began her working career in Gordon, where she met and married the late George Nathaniel Barfield. Betty moved to Washington County for work with J.P. Stevens Company as a Loom Weaver. Mrs. Barfield was also employed by Washington Manufacturing Company and the William Carter Company. She was a longtime member of Tabernacle Methodist Church. Betty possessed a passion for growing flowers and won many awards for showing her Iris. Mrs. Barfield enjoyed sewing quilts, playing Chinese Checkers, and fishing. She is preceded in death by her sons, William Roger Barfield and Lee Edward Barfield.
Survivors include her children, Cheryle Barfield Dunn of Haddock, Sandra Barfield Norwood and husband Jimmy of Sandersville, and Stanley Barfield of Harrison; grandchildren, Jimmy Norwood and wife Shannon, Jessica McDaniel and husband Jason, Jennifer Bonner and husband Brad, Ashley Wilds and husband Casey, Courtney Claxton and husband Josh, and Brittany Barfield; nine great-grandchildren; and siblings, Alice Jernigan and husband Dwight and Mae Purvis and husband Huelon of Enigma, Georgia.
