Mrs. Ruby Augusta “Gus” Ouzts, age 94, of Tennille, died Friday, August 24, 2018 at Washington County Extended Care Facility following an extended illness. A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 29th at 11:00 a.m. at Zeta Cemetery in Tennille with Reverend Randall Smith and Reverend Jeff Cook officiating.
Mrs. Ouzts was born and reared in Lexington, Georgia, the daughter of the late Edgar Herschel Roberts and the late Henrietta Cunningham Roberts. She was a graduate of Meson Academy and the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Mrs. Ouzts began her career in Education in the Sandersville Public School system and retired from the Washington County Board of Education as a guidance counselor with the exception of the years she remained home to rear her sons. She was a longtime and active member of Tennille United Methodist Church, where she served her church in numerous leadership roles. Mrs. Ouzts was also a member of the Tennille Fine Arts Club and she was an avid reader and bridge player. Her husband of 65 years, Wilmont Benjamin “Buddy” Ouzts predeceases Mrs. Ouzts.
Mrs. Ouzts is survived by her sons, Wilmont Benjamin Ouzts III of Eatonton, Herschel Roberts Ouzts and his wife Clarissa of Trent Woods NC., Henry Cunningham Ouzts and his wife Sharon of Eatonton and Charles Allen Ouzts and his wife Gamble of Charleston, SC.; grandchildren, Cort C. Ouzts and his wife Carly of Charlotte NC., Jamie Ouzts Reese and her husband Jake of Albany, Mary Ann Ouzts and Scott Roberts Ouzts both of New York, Gamble Augusta Ouzts of Atlanta and Elizabeth Caston Ouzts of Charleston SC.; great grandchildren, Eliza Ouzts, Carlyn Reese and Suzanna Reese;and sister, Saretta Roberts of Sandersville.
