MARY ALICE JOHNSON BRANTLEY

Mrs. Mary Alice Johnson Brantley, age 88, affectionately known as “Bill”, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Heritage Inn following an extended illness.  A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 26th at 2:00 p.m. at First Church of the Nazarene with burial in Poplar Springs Christian Church Cemetery.  Reverend Danny Thomas will officiate.  Pallbearers will be Greg Yarbrough, Gralin “Peanut” Yarbrough, Ron Waters, Kyle Yarbrough, Travis Green and Billy Brantley.  The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at the church.

Mrs. Brantley was a native of Washington County, the daughter of the late Charlie Moxley Johnson and the late Lizzie Mae Smith Johnson.  She was a homemaker and former seamstress for Royal Manufacturing Company.  She was a longtime member of First Church of the Nazarene where she was active with the Christian Workers Sunday School Class.  Mrs. Brantley loved gardening, fishing and hosting fish fries.  She was a great cook and known for her cat head biscuits and chicken and dumplings.  Mrs. Brantley is predeceased by her husband, Harold Arthur “Sweet Pea” Brantley; children, Mary Ann Smith, Larry Dean Brantley and Glenda Faye Sellers; and siblings, Eudell Lindsey, Ammie Price, James Johnson and Jeanette Davis.

Survivors are her children, Jerry Russell Brantley and his wife Stevanna of Sandersville, Sue Garrett and her husband James of Davisboro, and William Thomas Brantley also of Sandersville; nine grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
