Mr. Charles O. Elton, age 94, of Augusta, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at his residence following an extended illness. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, March 20th at 2:00 P.M. at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville with burial in Brownwood Cemetery. Reverend Rich Bowen will officiate. The family will great friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Mr. Elton was born and reared in Oconee, the son of the late Owen Elton and the late Mary Anne Yates Elton. His job with Universal Utilities relocated Mr. Elton to Augusta, where he would spend the rest of his life. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for over 30 years. Mr. Elton was an active member of New Hope Worship Center in Augusta, where he was a church deacon and worked with church finances. He loved to fish and hunt and possessed a love for restoring old cars.

Mr. Elton is survived by his wife, Joyce Thigpen Elton of Augusta; great-nephews, Gregory Jimenez and his wife Isila and Charles Jimenez, whom he lovingly referred to as sons and daughter-in-law. He is also survived by a third beloved great-nephew, Vincent Taylor, as well as several extended family members.

Donations may be made to the donor’s favorite charity or to New Hope Worship Center in Augusta in memory of Charles O. Elton.
