The striping contract for two county roads was approved by Washington County Commissioners during a Thursday, September 23 called meeting.

According to County Administrator Dustin Peebles, the County received grant funds for striping through the Local Maintenance Improvement Grant. The funds allocated for this project total $174,000.

The two roads included in this project are: Deepstep Road and Tennille-Oconee Road.

Four bids were received for this project; however, one bid did not meet the scope of the project. Commissioners originally reviewed the bids at their Thursday, September 9 meeting, but opted to table a decision until the bids could be vetted by the County’s consultant, Atlas.

When discussing the four bids, County Administrator Peebles explained that in the past the County has clipped and cleaned the shoulders for such projects, but because the Road Department is currently short-staffed, the bid specified that the contractor would need to complete this portion of the project.

It was noted that only one bidder did not account for the shoulder work.

County Administrator Peebles stated that at the bottom of that contractor’s bid sheet, it identified the County as responsible for clipping and cleaning the shoulders for this project.

“And that’s not correct,” said County Administrator Peebles during the September 9 meeting.

During the Thursday, September 23 called meeting, County Administrator Peebles provided a recommendation from Atlas, the County’s consultant, regarding the four bids received for the striping project.

Atlas’ letter to the Commissioners notes that they reviewed the bids, and their recommendation was to accept the bid from C and H Paving, Inc. in the amount of $149,113.

After hearing the recommendation from Atlas, Washington County Commissioners unanimously voted to award the striping contract to C and H Paving, Inc.
