Mrs. Betty Ann Smith, age 76, of Gwendolyn Street in Sandersville unexpectedly passed away at her residence on Monday, January 24, 2021. A graveside funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, January 28th at 2:00 P.M. in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery of Mitchell. Reverend Roy Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 27th from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the May and Smith Funeral Home in Sandersville.
Mrs. Smith was born and reared in Glascock County, the daughter of the late Alton Boze Johnson and the late Ruby Bridges Johnson. She attended and graduated from the Glascock County Public Schools. Betty spent her adult life as a homemaker. She was a longtime member of Friendship Baptist Church in Mitchell. Mrs. Smith possessed a kind soul and enjoyed serving others. Betty loved to fish and complete word searches. Above all, her family always remained her top priority. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her daughter, Wanda Faye Mathis; grandchildren, Christopher Cross, Daryl Cross, Jr. and Crystal Cross; and siblings, Boze Johnson, Roy Johnson, Alton Johnson, and Bessie Mae Griswold.
Survivors include, her children, Wayne Johnson and his wife Emily, John Wright Smith and his wife Pamela, and Wilma Anne Smith and her significant other Shannon Hudson all of Sandersville; grandchildren, Rachel “Niki” Kicklighter and Samantha Mathis; great-grandchildren, Cathryn Nicole Kicklighter, Camry Madison Kicklighter, Dewayne Lewis Mathis, Zoeria Daniels, Mira Mathis, and Jeremiah Mathis; and siblings, Steve Johnson and his wife Susan of Tennessee, Stan Johnson and his wife Virginia of Louisville, and Billy Johnson and his wife Lois of Gibson.
