Mr. Thomas Elbert Story, age 79, of Green Lane Road in Sandersville passed away at his residence on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, following an extended illness. A family-only graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 17th at 11:00 A.M. in the Story Family Cemetery at Panther Branch Road. Reverend Mickey Umberhant will officiate.

Mr. Story was born in Glascock County, the son of the late Frank Grady Story and the late Lois Gray Story. He moved to Washington County with his family as a teenager and graduated from the Sandersville High School. Thomas began his working career as a meat cutter and salesman for Central Packing Company. Mr. Story was later employed in law enforcement by the Sandersville Police Department and Washington County Sheriff’s Office. He last worked as an Equipment Operator for Thiele Kaolin Company and as Facilities Maintenance Manager for the Oconee Nursing Home. Thomas cherished his time spent with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Story enjoyed driving his golfcart alongside his dog, Rosco. He loved to cut jokes with family and friends and listen to gospel music. Thomas attended the Oconee Church of God.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Glenda Kitchens Story; children, Gilbert Lee Story and wife Michelle, David Allen Story and wife Tara, and Mary Loretta Story all of Sandersville; grandchildren, Allen Story, Ashley Story and partner Jordy Tingle, and Candice S. Dudley and husband Brian; and great-grandchildren, Tatum Joy Kennedy, Hunter Michelle Dudley, Cole Dudley, Chevi Dudley, and Cheyenne Dudley.
