Mr. Donald Walker, age 89, of Warthen passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024, at the Washington County Regional Medical Center. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, February 26 at 1:00 P.M. in the Union Baptist Church of Warthen with interment to follow in the Church Cemetery. Reverend Jim Duggan and Reverend Ronald Bracewell will officiate. Pallbearers will be Dylan Walker, Christopher Sutton, Justin Garrett, Mike Franklin, Jonathan Franklin, and Allen Lawrence. The family will receive friends on Monday from 12:00 P.M. to the hour of the service in the Union Baptist Church.

Mr. Walker was a lifelong resident of Washington County, born in Warthen to the late Joe Carlie Walker and the late Mary Elizabeth Shurling Walker. He began his working career following high school with H.L. McCaskill Construction Company in Sandersville before opening his own company, Modern Concrete Inc., in 1968. Donald later worked with A.L. Williams Associates before completing his working career with the State of Georgia as a Project Quality Control Manager for state building projects, retiring in 2005. Mr. Walker was a faithful member of Balerma Baptist Church, serving as an Ordained Deacon and Song Leader for the church. He was an active volunteer in the Sandersville civic community, especially in the Civitan Club, as President and Secretary-Treasurer over his twenty-plus years with the group. Donald never met a stranger and always enjoyed a conversation. Mr. Walker enjoyed fishing and watching the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves. Above all, he will be remembered as a devout Christian and a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth Turner Walker of Warthen, son, Donald Jeffrey Walker of Tifton; grandchildren, Kristi Walker Garrett and husband Justin of Dublin, Lora Elizabeth Walker Sutton and husband Christopher of Dublin, and Dylan Walker of Tifton; great-grandchildren, Walker Garrett, Lora Leigh Garrett, and Natalie Garrett all of Dublin; and brother, C.A. Walker of Macon.
